Kollective is a design studio based in Portland, Oregon, founded by principal designer Anna-Jaël Hotzel. We work based on the idea that your story is your own and should be reflected in the space you call home. Kollective works with clients to help them discover the meaning in their journey and bring that meaning to life in their space. We design spaces that feel warm, modernist, and narrative using color, textiles, and art. We believes that home is where we can most fully be who we are and that nothing is more personal than home.
Born in Germany and raised between Hamburg and Sebastopol, California, Anna-Jaël's work is influenced by growing up biculturally. Her curiosity informs her approach to design and she brings this to life through unexpected details in her work. The spaces she creates are informed by her extensive travel and interest in design of the early 1920's. She's inspired by the work of Josef Frank, Piero Portaluppi as well as Northern California architecture of the 1960's.
Her interdisciplinary approach references historic architecture, fine art, and anthroposophy.
